Plastic pots are super familiar — lightweight, durable, and come in every shape and size. But not everyone knows how to use them correctly! Here are some small (but serious) mistakes we often see plant lovers make. Let’s check if you’re making any of them:
1️⃣ Using a pot that’s too big or too small
Tiny plant in a giant pot? The roots can’t find their way and water sits too long. Too small? Roots get cramped.
➡️ Best to choose a pot 2–3cm larger than your plant’s root ball.
2️⃣ Blocked drainage holes
Plastic pots usually have drainage holes, but many people block them with plastic bags or paper — bad idea! Water gets stuck and roots rot.
➡️ Always check the drainage. If you’re worried about soil leaking out, use small pebbles instead of plastic.
3️⃣ Not cleaning the pot before replanting
Pulling out a dead plant and adding a new one right away? Uh-oh! Leftover bacteria and fungus can harm your new plant.
➡️ Clean the pot with mild soapy water or soak in diluted vinegar before use.
4️⃣ Using the wrong pot for your plant type
Some plants hate moisture or too much heat. Thin black pots in full sun? That’s a big no-no for shade-loving plants.
➡️ Choose pots based on your plant’s needs and where you’ll place them.
🌼 In short: the right pot = happy plant = cozy home!
